On Friday, July 24, 2009, Mike Buzan was nearing the end of his work day when he began to feel dizzy and almost collapsed. He took a break from his duties at Horning Roofing Company where he acts as foreman to a service maintenance crew. Many of his team knew something was wrong because Mike isn't one that typically takes breaks. A friend on his crew was able to help him down to the ground, but his head did not clear. Once home, he was talking incoherently and unable to answer simple questions. His wife Jen immediately drove him to the emergency room at the hospital.
Once there, doctors discovered Mike, a healthy, thirty-three year old man who had recently been training for a triathlon, had a stroke. Tests revealed Mike had a sporadic ischemic clot in his left thalamus of his brain. Physically, he is coming around and has been able to take short walks around the block. Mentally, his thought process is delayed, but he is able to carry on conversations. Unfortunately, he is going to need to relearn a variety of physical and cognitive skills before he can consider returning to his previous job or any other job in the near future.
Mike and Jen are strong people and and will endure this tragic set of circumstances. However, for the near future they are financially devastated. Friends, family and community members are uniting to help this family through this difficult time. Please browse the page to find out how you can help. Mike and Jen have been overwhelmed at the outpouring of gratitude and generosity shown already. This is a very humble and hard-working family stuck in a tough situation. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and caring!

"Mike and his fine family are a part of our Hamilton County Community. You can see from the pictures the family closeness and joy that they share. Mike has always been a good citizen and one to help others. I encourage you to step up and show support from our community to Mike and his family as they recover from this tragedy. A small gift on our part becomes a large symbol of our community unity and willingness to help a family struggling to help itself. Senator Luke Kenley"
